  • SBZ Beilmacher hatten oft lokale Lieblingsform, aber übernahmen features of form und Ornamentik von Nachbarsäxten
  • „This makes it very difficult to evolve citeria for distinguishing imports from local products. Details of decoration are easiest to take hold of for purposes of analysis, but distribution maps or lists compiled on the basis of ornamentation alone are liable to provide a completely misleading picture.“
  • Ein Formkriterium zur Unterscheidung ist „double moulding“ am Mund bei westlichen/britischen Äxten. Der obere Wulst ist groß und ausladend, der untere kleiner, oft nur eine dünne Rippe und die Öse ist so angebracht, dass sie am unteren Mould beginnt.
  • Einzelne Wulste und hoch angebrachte Öse gibt es gelegentlich auch bei westlichen Formen, aber „Double Mould“ gibt es nicht in Nordeuropäischen Formen
